By law, prizes of over $2,500 must undergo additional processing to determine if the claimant owes back child support. If your prize is more than $5,000, the Lottery must deduct the minimum amount of taxes required by law including federal and state taxes. Other types of deductions include items such as, but not limited to, child support, back taxes or court-ordered payments.
